The world is hoping that the history-makers are on an upward part of the learning curve, and that argentino torturers will not be employed as they were in the Nicaragua adventure of Reagan, that landmines will not be indiscrimately sown as they were there, that priests not be shot as they were there, that young girls will not be raped and then have their breasts cut off and be impaled on spikes to die in agony pour encourager les autres, as they were there

The US is to be applauded for not blowing up lots of camel pasture to make good television imho, for permitting [what is said to be] Powell's input in re careful thought as to who exactly is the enemy, before surgically applied pyrotechics, in order to make a net reduction in terrorist recruitment drives, in lieu of pandering to the 'nuke all the ragheads' sentiment of the rightwing hawks .... this may be learning from painful mistakes, the Viet Nams, the Nicaraguas, the Bays of Pigs, but any learning is good, and we your neighbours are cheering you on, fwiw
