You are wrong...Intel will come through this unscathed and not lay off anyone...becuse they are "Intel"... Seriously, Barrett was very phophetic about laying off 20k. Pretty simple...all those who were hired into the W2k runup should be a little nervous right now...because it seems we be rollin' back a few years...
Jim
Of course they won't be unscathed. Intel has let go lots of contractors. A Contractor is a "Temp", when your Contract expires, you leave. Most of the contractors that were working on F22 Construction, are now gone (hint, hint). Intel also instituted a VSP Program, where they encouraged people to take a payoff to quit. In addition, some of the New College Graduates that intel offered jobs to, were subsequently offered payoffs not to come.
Bonus's will most likely be cut, discretionary spending has been cut, the free computer giveaway has been delayed, voluntary time off without pay has been encouraged at several sites, and the reshuffling of employees from Flash Fabs to MPU Fabs is most likely being implemented. All these things have been done specifically to avoid laying people off. Looks to me like intel is doing everything it can possibly think of, NOT to lose the trained people they already have.
Heard about any similar drastic cost cutting efforts at AMD?? Me Neither. Looks to me like AMD took the easy way out by throwing people out of their jobs, as the first solution. Maybe if Jerry Sanders hadn't been so hell bent on his "Intel Jihad", AMD might have come up with another solution.
But hey, as long as the AMD faithful can make themselves feel better, by "speculating" that after trying every other possible solution, intel may have to eventually (maybe) let some people go. That's O.K. with me.
After all, making themselves feel better by crapping on intel, is what really matters to the Droids... Right???
