>> One other thing, how do you square this isolationist view with your advocacy of investment in communist China? <<

well there are a couple of answers to that. for one thing, it's obvious that many people are ignorant as to what protectionism and isolationism is. they assume that means you build a giant wall around your country and cut yourself off from the rest of the world. that is ridiculous. protectionists don't have a problem with trading with the world. what they are against is the united states trading away our sovereignty leaving us beholden to global trade agreements where we are not in a position to protect our national interest.

second of all, as long as globalization and "free trade" are the rules by which i must play, i will seek to make the best of the situation by trying to protect my own interests. you can't live your life the way you hope the world to be, you have to life your life according to the reality of the situation.

p.s. i haven't exactly advocated an investment in china. not yet anyway.
