meet Ayman al-Zawahiri

I think that it is very important to realize that this is not just a bin Laden problem. I sometimes think that one of the worst things that could happen would be if the Taliban handed a living bin Laden over to the US. This would make it more difficult to go after the many senior leaders who need to be killed. I very much doubt that bin Laden is the mastermind who is planning these attacks. I think we need to be looking for somebody with military or intelligence service training, who is very smart, and has considerable practical experience in terrorism or guerilla warfare. None of the people who have been publicly profiled so far really fit this description. I think that bin Laden is their George Bush. We need to make sure we get the whole administration.

Finding these people in Afg. is going to be very tough. In Somalia we were chasing a guy called General Aideed. We never caught him, and a bunch of US soldiers died trying.
