Re: natural birth control. The "Billings Method" is 99% effective if you don't cheat. Better than condoms, better than diaphragms, better than foam, close to equivalent to the Pill but without side effects. But it requires education, planning, forethought, honesty - and the ability to use a thermometer - and an accurate thermometer.

Anyone who is motivated enough to take "the Pill" every day ought to be able to take her temperature every day.

The Catholic Church endorses the Billings Method.

I used to work as a counsellor in an abortion clinic, and as a counsellor in a maternity ward. The reason that women get pregnant in the US isn't that they don't have access to birth control, it's because they don't use it. Many don't use it at all, many don't use it properly.

Human beings have a tendency not to plan before they have sex. It's probably the reason the species keeps reproducing.

No priest in the world will prevent a woman from taking her temperature in order to keep track of when she is ovulating. Getting her husband to abstain during ovulation is the problem. The woman may not want more children but the husband does. Or they may tell themselves, "just this once."

If you want to use artificial birth control, fine with me. Due to health problems my doctors have never allowed me to take the Pill, so I know it's not the be-all and end-all of contraception.
