Elpida Memory Postpones Start of Its DRAM Plant
October 2, 2001 (TOKYO) -- Elpida Memory Inc., a joint venture company of NEC Corp. and Hitachi Ltd., said it will postpone the start of operations of its DRAM plant now under construction.

Elpida, which is building a 300mm wafer DRAM plant inside the premises of NEC Hiroshima Ltd., will delay the opening of operations from the originally scheduled date in December 2001 until September 2002.

The company said the reasons for the delay are the unprecedented depression in the DRAM market and the uncertainty about future market conditions that became heightened after the terrorist attack on the United States.
