Viant's Latest Media & Entertainment Work Results in Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment's Screenblast Debut
Viant and Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment Collaborate To Build First-Ever Broadband Creativity Platform
biz.yahoo.com
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 2, 2001-- Sony Pictures Digital Entertainment's (SPDE) official debut of its new broadband-based entertainment service - Screenblast(TM) - marks a significant milestone in Viant's experience in helping media and entertainment companies maximize their value from intellectual and content assets. Viant, (NASDAQ:VIAN), tapped by SPDE for a shared, long-term vision of a powerful emerging broadband medium, was charged with helping SPDE build Screenblast.

The debut of Screenblast represents the beginning of a new era in networked entertainment. Screenblast uses a broadband-based creativity platform to deliver to its users a non-linear, two-way entertainment environment. Users can immerse themselves in branded entertainment offerings, tap into browser-based creativity tools to directly participate in the experience or download the Screenblast Creation Suite(TM) and create their own entertainment. The Screenblast community can share and collaborate throughout the site through showcase pages, search and send-to-a-friend features.

Viant worked closely with SPDE to build the innovative broadband-based destination, bringing a deep understanding of emerging technologies, consumer behaviors, evolving business models, and personal media management to implement the project.

``Viant had the vision and the talent needed to bring the complexity of the Screenblast business to life,'' said SPDE President Yair Landau. ``In collaborating with us, Viant's multi-disciplinary approach gave us not only the depth of skill we needed from a technological standpoint, but also important insights on the consumer experience and the incorporation of back-end tools needed to operate the business.''

Building For A New Era of Broadband Entertainment

Fundamental to the building of Screenblast was SPDE's belief that broadband is enabling an entirely new interactive and personal entertainment experience online. A proliferation of new consumer devices is also allowing consumers to connect and engage in new ways. Additionally, the next generation of digital and video cameras, combined with the next generation of easy-to-use software tools, give users a new creative power to create their own video and music.

``SPDE had a truly pioneering concept for building upon the core strengths of the Sony brand while taking this consumer creative empowerment to new heights. We're proud to have had the challenge and opportunity to help build this first-to-market service and contribute to what we see as a new era of online entertainment,'' said Bob Gett, President and Chief Executive Officer of Viant.

``At Viant, we are excited by the trend demonstrated with SPDE's Screenblast as each user is becoming increasingly empowered to be the producer or programmer of their own entertainment experience,'' said Michael Skoletsky, Director of Viant's Media and Entertainment Practice. ``We are privileged to be helping our media and entertainment clients develop new revenue models and intensify their relationships with their customers.''
