For the most part. You are correct in your stated arguments. I fully realize what my words mean. However remember that I have never advocated nor volunteer to become a missionary. It is not in my plans. (and it has never been part of).

The effect of the Church has not started just now in the 20th century.

The effect of the church started and was instrumental during the conquest and colonization of the entire Latin American continent. The power of the church is quite extensive. In this part we disagree.

For now, they could use their armies of priests, brothers and volunteers to do a better job than in the past. For starters education and a far more aggressive form of birth control are in my opinion a must, otherwise it will simply get worse over time.

I don't really think that upper class Latin Americans actually want to get their hands dirty helping the poor. They'd rather complain to each other about "these people."

Partially true, but it is not all true.

The main problem lies in the corruption within the government that stops or slows down growth of employment in specific areas where it is most needed. The poor do not need "hand outs" they need jobs and education.

As for "busts and booms" Well... I believe all this is part of the problem... Unless the problems of Latin America are understood, how can the American and European banks succeed in retrieving the money they have foolishly lent out ? Yet they keep getting into the same problems over and over.

In the particular case of Mexico because of its common border with the US, it has reached critical proportions... If anybody thinks that the illegal population will abate... they are dreaming. When will both governments really get serious about this...? I have no idea.

As for me... I am done bitching really a long time ago. I was merely pointing out things that many times are not seen. If they are seen and yet the same actions are taken then... I guess it is another chapter in the book of the absurd.
