Hey Ga Bard... one of the real driving motivational reasons why naked ss was alowed was for the use of Institutional Maret Makers to get a better grasp of there equity at all times. If a study was done on historical records of how many Institutional firms who have market making divisions with a position in the equity, I think the results woudl be off the charts..due to there profit constution for daily trading profits throughut the quater. I find that over the lst 5 years or so that a colusion between many of the leading firms in there equity trading divisions is at fault here, a subject not looked into by the SEC or any other sanctioning body. The thing is with a market maker taking on a naked short..the nasdaq regs allow them to do it with just a simple short sell order, so there is no clear method of statusing that order as a naked short or a short(with a real equity behind it)...either way it is just a short sell to the firm.

Anything offshore that is illeagly perpatrated just adds fuel to the fire.
