Pete, RE: Intel does not have a single part in the P4 that runs at 4GHz. That system would never be called a double frequency section except by someone who does not know what they are talking about. It may sound good, but it is not true. What do you expect from marketing morons? I am afraid that you are the moron in this case. The Pentium 4 ALU implementation is not two 2GHz pipelines 180 degrees out of phase as you say. It actually operates at twice the basic frequency of the part which would make it 4GHz for a 2GHz P4. Intel published a paper at ISSCC 2001 regarding ... Hey, guess what?!.. "A 4GHz Integer Execution Unit for 0.18µm CMOS Microprocessor" Intel, Hillsboro, OR What's really mindboggling is the frequency at which this ALU will operate for the 0.13 um process.
