Some would replace the word "control" with "elevate." I supect that both would be correct. I think that there are many instances where we can look around and say that an individual or a community is better because of religion. There are also many examples where things are worse because of religion. We can all hear what we want to hear and are usually clever enough to find justifications for doing what we want to do. The problem is that when the justification is found in religion, the ferver with which we approach the task and the lack of reflective thought in our actions are compounded. Religion, like nationalism and patriotism, can be a wonderful thing. Similarly, it is also something that should be feared because it discourages "relativism."

Speaking of religion, I wish this market would get some and make a move so I could play it one way or the other. Instead it just sits here undecided, much like me. Ed
