OT - Neutron Bombs ad absurdum.

I'm not advocating bombing innocents. But think about this weapon against cave systems in remote areas in preference to hand to hand cleaning out of the caves.

WC, please post your degree of expertise in making such a statement. Especially, please describe the differences between Alpha, Beta, and Gamma radiation. I know whereof I speak. I'm not sure you do. In my experience of preparing to receive such explosions, the only thing more effective than my tank to protect me from radiation effects was a 10-foot deep bunker. I think the caves go well beyond that.

Neutron bombs are LOUSY weapons against deep entrenchments. We might be able to do seismic mapping of the cave systems, then seal them conventionally, rather than burrow in. However, your constant advocacy of tossing nukes at individuals shows a marked lack of comprehension of their physical and political side effects.

Besides, we have exited the "zero casualty" mentality that has constrained our actions for the last decade. If we fight a war, as we are prepared to do, our soldiers WILL take casualties. They know it, and we know it, and we're all prepared for it. If two of my classmates had not been on TDY elsewhere, they'd have been at their E-Ring desks in the Pentagon. Those desks are now below the rubble.

A hammer will drive a screw ... but there's probably a better tool for the job. Ditto for your approach. With enough supercalifragilistic neutron bombs, we probably COULD glaze Afghanistan into one big Corelle mixing bowl - but we SHOULD not. They ain't the one-size-cure-all wonder weapons you seem to believe they are.
