Kap: I would guess that these numbers are conservative because they have to accommodate Hammers as well. Hammers will have IPC significantly higher than even Athlon XP. What makes you so sure of this? While I don't think that Hammer IPC will be as low as P4, I am not convinced it will match AthlonXP. Yes, there will be several positive contributions to the IPC, most notable (IMHO) the integrated memory controller, but AMD also seem to have indicated that the pipeline will be extended. E.g. as in "Pipeline supports aggressive clock speed scaling". -fyo
