KB, that post was so eloquently worded and the logic in it was so unassailable that there is nothing left to do but to attack you personally. Here goes:

"Those who reject God's word are very clever with their logical assaults on the bible. The truth is that there are things which are not given to man to understand and those who refuse to accept God's word do the work of the devil and are doomed to suffer the fires of hell. They can twist and pervert the word all they want but the truth is that they are twisted souls and their worldly logic is the product of vanity."

I think that this illustration of counter-logic highlights a point that you made earlier to the effect that narrow and structured thinking can impede the social and economic well being of whole nations or groups of peoples that are locked into strict constructions of the world and life. It also illustrates how difficult it is to deal with people who do not have to justify their beliefs on the basis of logic at all. What means are there to change the minds of those who say that "it is because it is?" It's too bad that we couldn't work through those who are not empowered by these beliefs. In the Islamic world those would be the children and the women. Unfortunately, the Islamic men are clever enough to know that knowledge in the hands of the powerless is a dangerous thing. Ed
