google.com ... a google search using 'tambogrande', gives 631 hits ... i tried searching El Comercio and their search engine brings up hits but the links to them give error 404 ... i haven't read any of these, but just scanning the headers they clearly lean to the fear-mongering side of things ... this is to be expected imho 'un pueblo agrario y no minero' = 'a farming people, not a mining people' ... mining in the area is deeply associated with slavery and serfdom, for good reason - that is how the people have been treated by mining interests over the last few centuries ... the most difficult of subsistence farming is seen as a superior life since a man is master of his own fate to a large degree, and gets to use the majority of his production to feed his family ... in the case of mining neither has ever been the case ... so there is ancient strong prejudice to overcome, and it is fed by the professional 'environmental' lobby just as it would be anywhere If you dig out anything that looks newsworthy and is in spanish, i can translate bits for you ... Claude, i see some of the headers are en francais .... i haven't kept up with the story at all lately, just saw your posts ... cheers
