HI Semi,

I saw that earlier today.

I have wondered for about two months now if Amat's modular process approach may well be so successful that it in effect becomes the operating system for all future 300 mm fabs.

Just as in software - it may also hold true for process machines - Even though you may produce the Best of Class mach/software - if it doesn't fit within the entire modular process it may be overlooked.

If the total management of the process makes up for individual weaknesses of specific machines - Amat may well be engineering out some superior competitors products. Only the 800 pound Gorilla could do that with software and the entire lineup of process machines(like Amat is).

If so, we're looking for mergers big time and Amat will be a 20 billion company by next cycle peak.

I'm still trying to form my opinion on this but I'm glad I sold my Nvls and haven't entered into Amat yet - but I've got an itchy finger.

BWDIK
