Last week I set out to read some of the pieces about the WTC bombings by writers for the NYer's Talk of the Town (a link to them is below), and was was so repelled by the first, John Updike's, that I stopped reading.

Here is an emotional and, imo, rightfully scornful piece from The New Republic discussing the "cheap balm" on offer in some quarters. One line: "Also, in the search for strength, beware fine writing."

(I'm posting this simply because I think it's very interesting. We know that sensibilities differ, but don't often see the differences so starkly explicated or critiqued.)
