The educational establishment has its own agenda, and it's not always good

Hi Selectric ll,

I won't discuss the American educational system here. That is for another forum.

My point is:

It may be confused with disloyalty, but I feel let down. I feel let down that my leaders didn't protect those little people in those little windows in the towers that crashed to the ground in NYC on Sept. 11. They didn't fulfill thier sworn duty to protect America from foreign attack. That is just the way it is.

It seems to me that Americans didn't talk much about what it meant to be an American before Sept. 11. Americans haven't talked about what it is to be American for a long time. At least not to my way of thinking.

It was a foregone conclusion when I was growing up that I should be proud to be an American That was explained to me in simple words that I could understand.

I know many 20 something adults that don't understand the meaning of patriotism in the same way that I understand the meaning of patriotism. I was lucky to have very proud and patriotic Americans as my mentors. I was lucky because I was given some history, I was told where I came from. I was lucky because I was surrounded by the love of many Americans and they were not all blood relatives. I saw them everywhere.

I remember the sense of pride I felt towards my country when I was told that I was living in the greatest place on Earth. I was so relieved to know that my options were unlimited.

I remember pledging allegiance to the flag and I remember admiring its stars and strips, the red white and blue. The feeling I got whenever I spoke those words are the same feelings I get today.

It is what we are told and by whom that makes all the difference in how we view this world.

Obviously I wasn't told everything and truthfully I never thought I would be. I think any American that thinks he will be, is eluding himself. I think that any American that thinks he should be is also eluding himself. I think they each need to get over it. We are given the ability to achieve a great deal of knowledge. A privilege few have. .

Freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom to think. What an incredible concept.

It is what the boys of Afghanistan are being told. It is what the boys of Saudi Arabia are being told that matters right now.

If the stories are true, and the most privileged in Pakistan are fed and schooled for $2.00 dollars a month. That these schools teach them Americans and everything they stand for are evil........Well, then that needs my immediate patriotic attention.
