Arafat is not close to be stupid. Nor was Assad, etc. Each one plays his game the best he can, and makes mistakes. Even Israel : they win wars but lose peace.Of course Arafat will always ask for more, take risks, miss, etc, but trust me : he know what the future has in store for his country. Not much money from friends, etc.
Now as far as the concessions go, I'll admit that he got some from Barak. But OTOH, much less than what the Palestinians would have had before 1967. Israel would, at that time, gladly made peace. The Arab countries hoped to get it all, missed, and now the situation is not to their advantage.
Everyone in this is very practical.
Unfortunately, Arafat uses his dead as bargain chips, and the more the better. What's even worse, it has done marvels on the world opinion.
I do not have to agree or disagree. I only try to understand all sides.
