“Between Russia and America lie oceans, between Russia and German, however, great history.”

Just because Russia is making overtures to Berlin, doesn't mean that they will be accepted. Germany likely doesn't want the competition for political dominance over the EU, and the fact that Russia is an economic basketcase that makes the former E. Germany seem like Utopia.

However, either way, I'm not overly concerned... Putin's looking for Russia's new place in the world, and I'm sure he's looking for other nations to acccept them... However, they are a former superpower, with political "brand name" recognition... Thus, they will likely find greater reception from the US.

Again, in either case, it doesn't matter to me since Russia has little to offer except markets for goods and a skilled workforce (if they haven't already emigrated to the US, or found a home in the Russian mafia).
