Somewhat Off Topic, but my sister received the following email and I am hoping someone might have some ideas. I will pass them along, if so.
TIA
Forgive me, if my question repeats former threads. I'm a journalist, so
the last several days have been rather hectic, and I haven't kept up
with much of the listserve discussions.

I am wondering if you recall any artists, thinkers, creators who have
explored life in Afganistan in recent years via art, filmmaking, fiction
or some other creative form. As people grapple for a deeper
understanding of a country that may serve as the backdrop for a war of
sorts, there is little of substance and timliness to go on. We might
recall the long war with Russia, the falling Buddas, women in veils with
no openings or maybe even the movie "Rambo." Not exactly a full picture.
Few statistics are gathered and few documentaries made. Painting and
photography are prohibited. There is no Afgan television for us to study
and only a few two-page newspapers to look at. I've found only four
films and no novels, as yet.
