Jerome,
The Abu sayyaf gtoup is part of Bin Laden's Network. They operate mostly in the Muslim areas. Southern Philippines --- Islands of Mindanao, Sulu, Palawan --- near Malaysia and Indonesia.

Their objectives are in part to raise money for Bin Laden and to buy more arms to fight the government. They say they are for a separate Muslim nation but most Muslim in the area who are suffering themselves like their Christian brothers are against them. Many of them are forming vigilante groups who are tired being evacuated from place to place (many Muslims are taking shelter now in Manila) to fight the terrorists.

Because Filipinos learned from the Americans how to be compassionate and to value life so as not to do something that will endanger civilian's lives, they are at the mercy of the terrorists. The trouble makers are always one step ahead. Those who pay ransom are encouraging more terrorism.

America should Wake Up and fight terrorism outside America before it comes here. Help countries that combat terrorism in the open.

In the meantime, let us all be vigilant. Companies should hire as much as many Security Officers as they can They could trim the pay of high salaried employees to help fund rhe drive; the gov't could help also financially. Don't let terrorists always one step ahead!
