don't be ridiculous. do you really think we would pay $50/bbl from saddam after allowing him to take over kuwait and possibly saudi arabia? considering how important of a resource oil is not only to the united states, but the entire world, do you think saddam actually thought he could try to gouge the entire world for $50/bbl?

that would just be an excuse for NATO and other allies to destroy him. obviously he doesn't want to be destroyed, he wanted to take kuwait so he could sell us the same oil kuwait is already selling us anyhow. the price didn't have to rise, we would just be lining his pockets instead of kuwaits.

be serious, will ya?
