Actually, I was at 44% cash before Sep 11, (see: siliconinvestor.com and went to about 15% cash on the close of the first opening, and from time to time that week to zero cash (fully loaded is really about 15% cash for me since the lunch deployment usually uses 10% to 15% of the cash). It helped that on the opening I had one more than a double (MAGS) and one 50% gain (EXDS) and since then I also had a 60% gainer (CDTS) and in two stocks the daily trading netted me on each more than 50%. (CCMP and MU), that by itself is a full 6% gain on the whole folio, that fully compensating for the few positions in which I am still under water by more than 10%, and leaves quite a lot. Add to that some very nice cumulative gains in the like of MERQ, CHKP (Thanks Jay), NVLS, AMAT, VECO, IMCL, IDPH, IART, CDTS, TARO, ZRAN (the Q" was a "wash" in this period) , in which I pocketed cumulatively between 10% to 25% each, and the core which I was fortunate to reenter three positions at "advantageous" prices (MRK, COO and TYC and IGT in which I am still down, but less than 10%), and you can see how it was "done". It helped not being caught in EXDS' demise (g).
Before the disaster, I still had the low occurring either on the Friday or the following Monday, and explained that due to the four days delay, it will probably not be until the folloing Friday (where it hit on the nose). |
