The new Islamists: educated, assimilated and in revolt

PARIS, Oct 3 (AFP) - Based on the series of arrests here that have followed the September 11 attacks in the US, anti-terrorist experts in France are constructing a new profile of the type of person likely to be drawn into Islamic-inspired violence against the West.

What is emerging is a picture of a young man in his 20s or 30s, of North African origin but apparently assimilated into French life. He is well educated, secular-minded and of middle income. And one day he is fired by a sudden hatred of all that surrounds him.

He moves into the orbit of a charismatic preacher at a prayer-circle or mosque. His life-style changes and he leaves his family. Finally a trip to Britain -- and the radical Islamic circles that flourish in London, Leicester or Birmingham -- sets the seal on his conversion.

Now, what's fascinating in the above scrap is its adaptability to fit/target almost any other minority --here's an example:

What is emerging is a picture of a young man in his 20s or 30s, of East European origin but apparently assimilated into French life. He is well educated, secular-minded and of middle income. And one day he is fired by a sudden hatred of all that surrounds him.

He moves into the orbit of a charismatic rabbi at a prayer-circle or synagogue. His life-style changes and he leaves his family. Finally a trip to Israel -- and the radical Zionist circles that flourish in Jerusalem, Netanya or Hebron -- sets the seal on his conversion.

Again, bear in mind that NO Islamic terrorist attack occurred in Europe over the past 15 years... Which is, after all, hardly surprising since, as most rabid Zionists claim, Europe's always stood by the Arabs/Palestinians, now hasn't it??
