when a tech company is on the wrong side of technology, with a strategy that goes against the grain of what customers want, it doesn't matter how "intelligent" management is—you end up with a disastorous result. you can be a smart guy and still be stubborn enough to make a wrong turn when confronted with a fork in the road, and that's just what Mcnealy has done. Instead of correcting this mistake, he has lead his constituants further down that road. pretty soon, its TOO LATE to turn back, you'd look like a fool and it wouldn't matter anyway. Take a look at a long term chart of SGI, for an example of a once great "technology" company, that made a wrong turn, and just kept goin, to borrow a phrase from The Boss. Other examples are CRAY, DEC, DATA GENERAL, and a graveyard full of others. Theres a leak in suncom's boat, that can't be fixed. they're large and can float for awhile, but there can be only one result.
