JH--Thanks for your interesting comments on the D1x performance and the pricing of flash cards. The key issue, as I see it, is whether SNDK, or more correctly, SNDK and Toshiba, are the lowest cost producers. If so, the other competitors will be squeezed more than SNDK during this period of somewhat restricted demand growth. If not, SNDK will be in as bad a position as the others.

My own theory is that SNDK has just enough proprietary technology to allow it to provide competitive performance at lower cost and that future profits depend on maintaining this edge. A second issue is whether the remaining SNDK ownership of chip fabrication facilities in Taiwan will appreciate in value as semiconductor demand recovers. If so, SNDK will be able to show one-time gains in the value of these holdings, offsetting the one-time losses that were taken previously as the stock prices dropped.
