Couple of signs of the PC and maybe server market rebounding, or at least not falling further on its face like Osha and Niles would have us believe: Dell positive at analyst's meeting, and P4 on allocation in the UK? (? re the latter). On the more pessimistic side for the PC market, Dell may be just cleaning up all the more vs. all their messed up competition.

Dell President Kevin Rollins said demand had rebounded more quickly than the company had expected after the Sept. 11 attacks.

"We were actually a little surprised by how fast things rebounded," Rollins said on the conference call. He said some of that was emergency and relief orders, which the company was expediting.

Business in the first five weeks of the quarter had trended to the high end of its range, Dell Chief Financial Officer Jim Schneider said.

"In light of these most challenging of circumstances, we are pleased to report business has stabilized," Schneider said on the call. "In fact, during the first five weeks of the quarter, events were trending toward the higher end of our range."
