The difference is that the United States has not gone into the Middle East and settled orthodox clerics in alien territories, then siphoned off natural resources with no compensation whatsoever (I recall we pay cash on the barrelhead for oil and protect that business free of charge to its owners), and cut off communication and commercial links at will.

Something many who read this may not know: some of the most extreme right wing elements in Israel, the orthodox clerics, are by law 100% exempt from any military service in the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces). I have a very good friend who is an officer with DSS (Department of State Security) who has traveled to and operated in the region on many occasions recently. His description of the IDF: "arrogant and repressive." And this man is a conservative politically here in the US. Now I believe there is certainly cause for this, Palestinians have attacked the innocent too many times and still do. On the other hand, using US-supplied Apache helicopters and Abrams tanks to assault civilian areas in the West Bank and Gaza is a tactic with which I do not agree. For example, when the IDF used Apaches a few months ago to assassinate a well-known leader of Hamas, there were American citizens of Palestinian decent on the floor below. They could have been killed, and a child below was. If this continues the rancor and bloodshed will never end.
