Iomega's Zip and Jaz Drives Provide the Storage Solution for 'Digital
Storytelling' at Technology Centers
ROY, Utah, June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Iomega Corporation (NYSE: IOM), today
announced their support of the Digital Clubhouse Network, a non-profit
organization working to educate communities about the exciting possibilities
that technology is providing. Iomega's Zip(TM) and Jaz(R) removable storage
products will be used to store the rich graphics and multimedia images
produced from the Network's "digital storytelling" program, which encourages
creative expression through technology.
The Digital Clubhouse Network established its first Clubhouse in Santa
Clara, Calif., in 1996, and announced the opening of the second today in New
York City's "Silicon Alley" at 55 Broad Street. The Clubhouses serve as
learning centers for youths, seniors, women, educators, those with
disabilities, and small businesses by providing the latest technologies,
including web publishing, digital photography, digital video and multimedia
authoring. Iomega has committed product and financial support to this
globally expanding organization.
"Our mission is to increase digital literacy among those who may not
otherwise have the opportunity to explore all that computers have to offer,"
said Warren Hegg, founder of the Digital Clubhouse Network. "Companies such
as Iomega help supply the resources and products that make our mission a
reality."
Digital storytelling is one of the Network's innovative educational
programs designed to familiarize users with multimedia tools. The program
involves creating a personal narrative in the form of a multimedia production.
Participants write a script, develop a soundtrack and add voice-overs, for a
three to five minute production of photographs, documents and video footage.
The digital story can be shared with family and friends over the Internet or
used as a digital resume.
"Iomega is pleased to support such a positive community outreach program,"
said Carol Ebert, director of Iomega's corporate communications. "The process
and tools that enhance digital storytelling require plenty of storage space on
a computer, and would quickly consume a hard drive or overwhelm a floppy disk.
Iomega's Zip and Jaz drives have the storage capacity to act as 'digital story
books.'"
Iomega's Zip and Jaz drives have proven to be an integral part of the
digital storytelling experience. Zip disks provide 70 times the capacity of
traditional floppy disks at 20 times the speed, with unlimited capacity in
100-megabyte increments, increased flexibility and a built-in backup system.
The Jaz drive offers unlimited capacity through removable one-gigabyte disks,
at speeds that rival many existing hard drives.
Iomega Corporation provides personal computer storage solutions that help
people manage their computer stuff -- anywhere. These solutions include: Zip
drives and disks; Jaz one-gigabyte drives and disks; Ditto tape backup drives
and tape cartridges. Used in homes, business, government and education, and
by creative professionals, Iomega storage solutions are available through
computer retail stores, resellers and major distributors. The company can be
