There's a difference. Linux has enabled a new market for Intel. What new market is AMD enabling for Microsoft?

Did Linux really expand the number of PCs sold or did it only expand the number of PCs without MS operating systems?

AMD IMO did expand the number of PCs sold because competition from AMD lowered the CPU prices and to a lesser extent lowered system prices and thus had at least a small effect in increasing system sales.
