Your'e arguing that in retrospect what we did to Japanese Americans was wrong but at the
time, understandable

Hi Bill, you have a gift for succinctness! Yes, that's just what I'm saying. Given the calamity, the fear that faced us at the time, you gotta cut those people charged with defending the country some slack. Time to relegate this event to the archives of history, alongside slavery and the Indian wars. Each of those episodes were complex and multi-layered in their context at the time, and it's not equitable for those of us who weren't there to arrive at harsh
judgments about people who lived in an entirely different time and world. It's interesting that with all the maturing we have done as a people, the polls show that right now there is a high level of support for the racial-profiling of Arabs as part of our security enhancement. In times of peril, we can still become mother bears protecting our cubs, and act out accordingly.

Maybe we can discuss this some more.

My best,

JC
