Kan't distinctions between hypothetical and categorical imperatives, phenomenal and noumenal worlds, pure and impure motives are all clever and all useless since he seems to erect a kind of epistemological Berlin Wall between the sides of each distinction. We can never know the one side and can only have experience of the other, so what's the point of even mentioning the other side? Despite Kant's brilliance, I can't imagine that we're doomed or that our salvation (whatever that is) has nothing to do with merit. I also don't think it should take too much to merit salvation.
