Am I so naive or are you so jaded?

Put yourself in the shoes of the people who, in the late twenties and through the thirties, found hope in communism because there was precious little elsewhere to be found. Were there scoundrels? Certainly.
There's never a shortage of scoundrels in any party, then or now.
