Put yourself in the shoes of the people who, in the late twenties and through the thirties, found hope in communism because there was precious little elsewhere to be found. Were there scoundrels? Certainly.

If they had been fasicsts instead of communists would you be similarly unconcerned?

I do think people have a right to their political ideas even if they are communists or nazis, and I do think that Mcarthy went too far, but communism is an evil idea.
