In a column called "Kill Them With Kindness," Cynthia Tucker, editorial-page editor of the Atlanta Constitution, offers the following proposal:

Even as U.S. Special Forces scour the countryside for Osama bin Laden, we ought to carpet-bomb Afghanistan and the Pakistani border with the essentials that Americans take for granted: food, medicine, clothing. Bomb them with packets of dried fruit and dried milk and cans of Spam. (Don't laugh; I like Spam.) Bomb them with bottles of vitamins, aspirin and children's cough syrup. We could even take it further, by bombing them with those little toys that come with McDonald's "Happy Meals."

Spam? Hey Cynthia, you're brilliant. Let's drop a product made from "pork shoulder and ham" on a Muslim country. That'll win their hearts and minds.
