Another scam, though more elaborate, goes like this: The guy mails out 10000 letters to random people saying "my charts say that VomiTek is going up next week, I'm giving you this tip for free to introduce you to my service". (This might apply in your case.) At the same time, he mails out 10000 letters saying "my charts say that VomiTek is going down...". At the end of the week he takes the mailing list for the "correct predictions", splits it in half, picks another stock, sends 5000 "going up" and 5000 "going down" messages. Continue three or four more times, then you put the hard sell on the remaining 500 people for a thousand bucks for your "proven prediction service that has been right six times in a row!"
