This is great news today. Why? The company gets to cut workers that are least productive whether it was in bad times or good. By my calculations they will cut 4,000 jobs with HR benefits and salaries probably with an annual savings of $500 million. Since Sun was the last major tech co. excluding IBM to lay off workers, and due to the coupling of the earnings recession info, the remaining workers will not feel as bad IMO. Now a leaner meaner SUNW can go about selling systems and when business picks up they will be hiring as needed. No excess fat on the books. Also listen to the call. Scott says they have $6 billion in cash and a great dental plan, so this will be the place to work.
As I said today's announcement is a net positive. Look at the stock price. It wasn't hurt too bad and even might end up.
