Fassil: Cisco/Alcatel strategic agreement has no impact.
I called my guy and he said that what they were doing would not impact FSCX. The bottom line with the agreement is:
1. Alcatel will add Cisco's routing to it's ATM and ISDN switches.
2. Alcatel will use Cisco's routing technology to add data communications capabilities to it's wireless communication products
3. Cisco will incorporate Alcatel's ADSL technology into it's products
4. Cisco may use Alcatel technology to enhance it's product line to add PBX-like functionality to the LAN.
5. The companies will coridinate their network mgt systems to allow users to manage networks consisting of both vendors products
6. Agreement should add $500 million/year incremental revenue to each company.
7. The agreement, while non exclusive, may be broad enough to limit Cisco's ability to partner with other teleco vendors.
Bottom line is that it's too early to tell how their partnership will do, and that we'll just have to wait to assess the likelihood of their effective execution. FSCX is not involved in these areas. If anything, maybe Alcatel will have some good things to say about FSCX and get CSCO interested in some of the newer FSCX technology. Takeover would be doubtful, but who knows. Strager things have happened, and CSCO has a habit of buying technology.
And NO I haven't 'heard' anything, this is just my own observation/opinion, nothing more.
How do you read it?? Rick..
