I believe those are simply docking devices for standard hard drives: every time you want to add capacity, you buy another hard drive and mount it in a docking device. It's main purpose is transportability of hard drives between machines - not any threat at all to JAZ or Syjet.

To all: Got my $222 EIDE Syjet yesterday - I think it took me longer to get the shrink wrap off the box than to plug it in and get it running: came up automatically as a removable device under NT 4.0. Win 95 thinks it's a real hard drive, until you install the Syquest Device Drivers, which I haven't done yet. It's a beaut of a product - I think the cartridge weighs more than the drive mechanism.

In fact my only criticism is that they apparently only make it with a black bezel/door, which in the internal model, doesn't look so great mounted in the beige 5 1/4" bay adapter it comes with.

Now to move all my Pinnacle Micro MO stuff to the Syjet - it's amazing to think that I can put all my 128MB MO cartridges (about a dozen) on one Syjet cartridge (would have needed two JAZ). I think I'll archive all my 3-1/2" floppies as well. I've got Hundreds and Zip images of all of them will barely make a dent in a Syjet cartridge.
