Bob: Another way to look at employment: We are running at an annual rate of filings for unemployment of about 1.5 to 2.0 million per month. Every day more layoffs are announced. The stocks rally because this will keep the companies from bleeding to death in the short term. Hiring freezes seem commonplace -- slowing the rate at which people who are filing will find work -- do you know any company that is hiring right now as they did before September 11? I sure don't. The stock market is ignoring the economy, not pricing in "bad news" and looking across the valley, but just ignoring the risks of a surge in unemployment IMO. dailynews.yahoo.com
