Interesting thoughts, pcstel.

IMHO:
1) BREW applications will emerge, it's way too cool of a technology not to be played with.
2) These applications will require high-speed mobile data connections.
3) If the carriers find a way to have fixed-price monthly plans for these services, they will take off like rockets.

Home Internet was luxury - now it's not. Wireless voice was luxury - now it's not, it's rapidly becoming a necessity. I think same will eventually happen with wireless data. It will be way too cool and convenient, with new shiny handsets and various applications... and fixed pricing.
