Hi Karen,

I just read your post to CH. Thanks. I think this is a very difficult time to be a pacifist. I've never been one, but having come of age during the Viet Nam war, when vets were spat upon when they came home, it took me years to come around to feeling that not every military action the US could take would be unjust and immoral. The events of September 11th changed my life in so many ways, one of them being that I find myself agreeing with the talk and actions of a president for whom I didn't vote and with whom I disagree on many things.

I think that here on SI, many conservatives mistakenly view liberals as pacifists and hence somehow traitorous. In my view, pacificism is disconnected from politics. It's philosophical view which I admire and which is exceedingly difficult to adhere to during times like these. Those who are true pacifists can be true patriots as well, I believe.

I'll read the article you posted to me a bit later and will get back to you. Bill wants to log on.
