ATMI receives major Hyundai order
DANBURY, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 20, 1997--
EcoSys division to provide environmental equipment for Oregon fab
Advanced Technology Materials Inc. (Nasdaq:ATMI) today announced receipt of a $4.4 million order from Hyundai Semiconductor America Inc.
ATMI's EcoSys division is providing complete turnkey environmental equipment and extensive monitoring services for Hyundai's newest fabrication plant, in Eugene, Oregon.
EcoSys is supplying Hyundai with point-of-use abatement equipment and services for its entire plant. This includes Novapure(R) dry scrubbers, Vector(R) wet scrubbers, and Guardian(R) thermal scrubbers. Product shipments and initial installation began during the first quarter. EcoSys is also furnishing on-site service management for this Hyundai site. Under this new program, EcoSys establishes environmental management at the customer's site to service all the point-of-use abatement equipment at the plant.
James Burns, EcoSys president, said, ``Because of Hyundai's consideration for the environment, it is one of EcoSys's larger customers. In Korea, where EcoSys is a major supplier, we have supplied Hyundai with hundreds of our Novapure(R) dry and Vector(R) wet scrubbers. Now that they are building their first U.S. fab, selecting EcoSys for its comprehensive abatement experience to outfit their entire fab and to provide follow-on ''Total Effluent Abatement Management`` services made good economic business sense.''
Gene Banucci, ATMI CEO, commented, ``By offering all key scrubbing technologies - dry, thermal, and wet - followed up by 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week service contracts, we believe EcoSys is in a good position to continue to grow market share. Its evolution into a full abatement solution provider of equipment, installation, and service is why EcoSys is counteracting much of the recent softness in semiconductor equipment. As stated in the recent Matheson Gas Products announcement (5/12/97), we think that Hyundai's Oregon plant will be a good customer for our SDS(TM) Gas Source delivery system for ion implant.''
Hyundai is taking the lead in building memory chip plants, despite current low DRAM (dynamic random access memory) prices. Dataquest (San Jose, CA) projects more than $7 billion of capital expenditures by Korean manufacturers this year. They are shrinking time to market for new chip technologies to gain additional market share and profits. At this, Hyundai's first U.S.-based fabrication plant, it plans to produce 64 Mb (megabit) and 256 Mb chips.
EcoSys, an ATMI company, is a world leader in point-of-use environmental equipment for the semiconductor industry. ATMI is a leading provider of advanced semiconductor materials and environmental equipment. It is also developing next-generation semiconductor devices based on its new materials technologies.
Statements which are not historical information are forward looking, which involve risks and uncertainties, including, but not limited to: changes in semiconductor industry growth or ATMI's markets; competition, problems, or delays developing and commercializing new products, and other factors discussed in ATMI's filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
