Good God! This genetic tendency for QCOM shareholders to bash any other technology, service provider, whatever is getting really silly.

Do you guys really think all these alternative non CDMA carriers are just hanging out for fun and know they will be burried within a few years...but figure, hey, we're just stupid?

Get off this QCOM CDMA will win at all costs thing. We've got some heavy duty players out there fighting for their survival and they are not going to be making business decisions that on the whole will doom their companies. Nextel's decision appears to make some kind of sense if the voice issue vs. infrastructure cost is valid. What, everyone at Nextel is stupid? Come on. The way it seems here, within 2 years the only service providers that will exist are pure CDMA plays and everyone else will vanish.

QCOM needs Nextel. QCOM needs those WCDMA royalties. QCOM needs the major players to confirm that they are not fighting them. Every stock price fall and every non CDMA move is seen as stupid and evil. Not a prudent view in terms of investment survival.

QCOM has great technology and will hopefully spread its talents across the planet as we all dream. With the stellar management (excluding some of the financial games), it will probably pull it off.

But its all in earnings and perceptions folks. That is what makes stocks move...not lifeboat press releases from Julie or unfullfilled dreams.

FWIW, I have a lot of friends who use AT&T and Cigular and love their service. I never have been able to convince them to switch over to Verizon or Sprint. Besides, they ask, why hassle getting a different phone number?
