Hi Karma -

I agree with Hawk that ideological members of the Nazi party were not Christians, but most Germans, even those who joined the Nazi party after it became expedient, were not ideological Nazis, and many thought of themselves as Christians. They thought of themselves as defending the Reich against the twin scourges of Communism and the "International Jew." Jews were alleged to be responsible for most of the ills of society. For example, they said that it was sabotage and treachery by Jews that caused Germany to lost WWI. Jews were responsible for the Great Depression. Jews were gangsters. Jews spread diseases. Jews murdered little children and drank their blood. Stuff like that. So there was something like religion involved, even though it's not what I would really call religion.

Seems to me that for the most part when people of different religions fight each other over what they call religion, it seems to be about power most of the time, not so much evil. Evil means consciously trying to do harm for the sake of doing harm, or for pleasure, IMO.

These guys - bin Laden and his ilk - I can see how in their own mind they think they are doing the right thing - I can see that to militant fundamentalists, purging civil society of elements which will lead people away from God is a good thing. Doesn't mean I agree with them.
