He was a former subject of the King of Saudi Arabia whose Power or Rule is limited to a certain area. Bin laden in contrast has no defined territorial area --- he is in constant move from place to place --- but his followers are scattered all over the world always ready to follow his orders. I don't believe Bin Laden likes to sacrifice his life to please Allah in the afterlife. He must be secretly laughing that others sacrifice their lives for him. Now, what is in the mind of people like Atta who piloted the first plane in that Sep 11 incident, why they were willing to die for Bin Laden? Blindly believing of glory beside Allah in the afterlife is possible. The other is to sacrifice ones life for the sake of ones love ones. An example is Jalandoni, a brother of the founder of the Abu Sayyaf Cell of bin Laden in the Philippines. He was captured and is willing to tell the FBI all he knows about Bin Laden provided his Family is given Money and be safe somewhere else. He said he is not afraid to die for the sake of his family.
