Oh I agree with a lot of what you say. I just don't agree with the culture bit. Culture and religion is just what they wave in our faces, and get away with it.
I think they are big hypocrats. Given half a chance, all of the males would jump to live Western type of lives. Even Bin Ladin. Do you know the Arab Sheikhs have the best horses in the world whereas racing is strictly off limits as per their religion. The males do what they please, but when it comes to their women, well, they want to retain the polygamy structure. Saudi's don't issue driving licences to their women. Or is it they can't drive alone ? Something like that. I doubt if you're saying that we should let them 'preserve that culture' ?
Sheikh Zayed of Abu Dhabi, UAE visits pakistan once a year and gets a planeful of women for his harem. Its pathetic. But he is one of the few I admire in the region. He at least keeps his country neutral. And yet, women adulteresses have a death penalty ! Well the death penalty does not stop most of these women ! Nature finds a way.
The anger is political. More than anything, it is a step by the few 'rulers' to retain control. To keep the male domination alive. It should not be confused with the will of the common people living in the region...
Now Ahmedias, the moderate Moslems, who are more in tune with the current world, are called Kafirs. They are not considered Moslems. And yet, they form the most intellectual, educated, economically independent class of Moslems anywhere in the world. Their women are educated and work as engineers, doctors. The males are well adjusted parts of society.
Why do moslem insurgents create terrorism in India, in Kashmir. There is no US involved. Hindu's do not have a permissive society....?
