Jim, some very interesting and, I think, astute observations. The bear story is the bull story in reverse. Wall Street has a saying that "investments make money; investors don't." Most bulls buy long funds when stocks are already up. And most bears buy bear funds when stocks are already down. It is a sad commentary and one that has led to idiotic indexing. Which they also buy high and sell low. <g>

The gold vs. oil and natural gas argument is an interesting one. I think it is less valid if you say Metals vs. energy, as gold is not the only metal out there. O.K., o.k., I know that I have often touted platinum, palladium and titanium. But they're so pretty. <g>
