Ummmm...
I agree some of what you said. And some of it I didn't understand....
Democracy can be enjoyed in the helm of a kingdom. Thats why I brought up the example of the ruler of Oman. And Dubai. Dubai and Oman are as democratic as it can get. One of the reason is that both rulers were brought up nannies who were Indian Hindus. And that has led them to tolerate other religions. But its just transient. Once the rulers die the future of the country is uncertain. Thats what a good democracy protects against. Look at India. Depite poverty, despite all kinds of problems, the people choose to be free, they choose democracy. They kicked out Mrs Gandhi when she declared National Emergency rule back in 70s.
Heart of Isam. Well, if any religion is good, it will thrive. Why do people have to be repressed and made to follow it. Those are the precise reasons why a religion will not be accepted. Most people don't like strange idealogies shoved down their throats. They want to experiment and adopt. They want a choice. And besides, I wasn't talking about Saudi monarchy in isolation. I meant the general area of Middle East....
Saddam never made a mistake. US made a mistake. He just paid a heavy price for a mistake HE never committed. And i don't think he's wrong in hating the US. Everytime I think of those Kurdish families and children, people who had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the Gulf war, but were egged on by the US to revolt, and then abandoned to be gassed and killed, well I am filled with guilt and loathing.
Me too...I lived in the neighborhood of Iraq and Iran. Iran was only 13 miles across the sea from where I lived before, during, after the Gulf war.....so my perspectives may be biased...
I have heard people comment that creation of the likes of Bin Ladin by the US is a price we pay for being the global leader. I've heard people say - We have to do it, we are right in doing it. I am not smart enough to debate something like that. I would say, however, if US HAS to do it, if they have to create more Bin Ladins in this world in the future, wel, after the mission is accomplished, those bin ladins, or the monsters they create, should be destroyed once the mission is accomplished.....they should not be set free to devastate other innocent states. Think of all the harm the US/CIA has done to countries like India by training and arming Bin Ladin and letting him loose....
Cruel, but something that will ensure lasting peace. |
